6900 km Exercises on living # 3 by
Tamara Bartolini and Michele Baronio
(NYC segment)

6900 km_Exercises on living # 3 is the third stage of the format Exercises on living, conceived by the Bartolini / Baronio Theatre Company and born from a reflection on the theme of home as a place of symbolic concentration of human coexistence on the planet, both historical and geographical.

The project is produced by 369gradi and Bartolini / Baronio, in collaboration with Romaeuropa Festival Foundation and ATCL Lazio.

6900 km_Exercises on living # 3 is the winner of the Grant Boarding Pass Plus 2021-2022, a call by the Italian Ministry of Culture focused on supporting international work aimed at encouraging the discussion and the exchange between Italian and foreign professionals.

This third stage of the format brings Tamara Bartolini and Michele Baronio to New York. The focus is to build a relationship with the Italian community, paying particular attention to the issues of diversity and inclusion. This phase is curated by Valeria Orani with the mediation of Laila Petrone.

Exercises on living developed through different stages, it started in 2019 in the city of Rome and developed between artistic residences and meetings with different urban communities. In October 2020, 16.9 km HOME CONCERT was staged at RomaEuropa Festival after being produced in 2019 by 369gradi and Romaeuropa. The second stage of the project started in 2020, expanding its borders within the Lazio Region thanks to the collaboration with ATCL (the Association that put together the Theatres of many municipalities of the region). Thru artistic residences in Alvito, Maenza, and Castrocielo, the artists explored the relationship between community and nature, contemporary living also in relation to the pandemic, up to the final performative act 333 KmExercises on living #2 staged during the thirty-fifth edition of the Romaeuropa Festival in 2021.

Within this third stage, the artists cross the Italian geographical borders by traveling 6,900km to the North American continent. Through recognition, research, crossing spaces, and meeting communities that live there.
The project intends to reflect on the concept of home by connecting several generations of Italians who emigrated to the US. The “exercises” are moments of research of closeness and proximity, conversations, interviews, as well as sound, visual and interactive installations. The study of places, the collection of testimonies, and the organization of moments of dialogue will build a series of video/sound portraits. The production of this video journey is possible also thanks to the collaboration with OFF (Ostia Film Factory).

369gradiproduces and accompanies the company in this new international phase of the project together with the other partners: ATCL- Multidisciplinary Circuit of Lazio and, in New York, Umanism, La MaMa Experimental Theater Club, InScena Festival, Italian Institute of Culture in New York.
